Out with the old….In with the new

Out with the old…for 2010 and in with the new for 2011. I got this ornament for Christmas and not only do I love it for what it is….A camera with my blog so crookedly written on it. Perfect! It gives it such character but it was also a perfect ending to such a great year and wonderful blog! I’ve enjoyed writing on this blog and have gotten to know some really great people. I’m preparing to print this one out into my first book for 2010, a nice memento to give the boys when they get a little older. With that being said though, I’ve also decided to change blogs. I’ve decided to try a different blog host and I’ve also decided to remove names just for safety reasons and to use little nicknames for my boys and the rest of us.

This new blog is certainly a work in progress. http://ourbeatenpath.blogspot.com/ I’m not wild about the header…I’m not sure how to use blogger and I’m going to miss all my old post. But just as I made this one my own in time I have no doubt that Our Beaten Path will become a great new home. No content is changing-I’ll still enjoying posting pictures, stories, and thoughts…It’s just the name.

Hopefully I’ll begin my new journey if not today then tomorrow to start the new year!

Happy New Year Everyone!!! Don’t forget to follow me on over to “Our Beaten Path!!”

Simplicity Photo Challenge: SOOC

This weeks photo challenge over at http://faith-simplicity.blogspot.com is SOOC….”Straight Out Of Camera.” In other words-NO EDITS! It’s gotten so easy these days to play around with different editing programs and its easy to forget how great the original picture really was.

This was a picture I took of Keagan this summer. I never messed with editing it because, well, I didn’t think it needed it. 😉

Pumpkin Patch 2010

I love autumn! I love everything that comes with it. The turn of the cooler weather, the changing of the leaves, apple picking, pumpkin patches, holidays that revolve all around family!

We had family come up for the weekend and made plans to go to the pumpkin patch right down the road from us. I looked forward to it all week! I was worried that maybe everyone else had already had the idea to go to the pumpkin patch and we would be showing up too late into the month and Nivens would be all picked out. Boy was I wrong though!

We pulled up and I kid you not, there must have been at least 200 cars there. Panic swept over me! I had never seen this little local farm with more than 10 cars. I was half tempted to just call up the family following us and tell them to head on back to our house. We didn’t though and ended up getting some great pumpkins, drinking some very yummy apple cider, checking out the little farm animals, and playing on some of the play gear they have.

When we first got there I was determined to go ahead and get a picture of Easton by his first pumpkins so I was steady snapping pictures while everyone else was leaving me to go out out to the fields. 😉

Once we got out there it didn’t take long at all for Keagan to make his claim….and then make another claim, and another, :). We had to end up putting a cap on the amount of pumpkins we would buy or else we would have gone home with a whole wheelbarrow full!

After picking the pumpkins we then headed over to play.

Once we played for a while and wore ourselves out we figured it was probably time to head on out. The crowd seemed to be growing and the line to check out was increasing by the minute.

While waiting in line to check out I of course decide to steal Easton, jump ship, and take the opprotunity to maybe sneak in a few more quick pics. Boy am I glad I did. These few right here ended up being some of my favorites!

What fun that ended up being! We created some great memories and had good family company with us while doing so! Can’t wait to go back next year! Also can’t wait to carve out the pumpkins we brought home. 🙂

Sunday Snapshot

We went to the pumpkin patch yesterday and had such a great time! I plan on doing a whole post to show what fun we had but first the garden must be tended to. In the meantime I wanted to link up and show a super cute Sunday Snapshot. Hopefully later on I’ll be back to post about our trip.

The Paper Mama’s Photo Challenge: Me & Mama….

This challenge from The Paper Mama was a tough one for me….

I’m not one to be in pictures and I’m certainly not one to take a picture of myself with my babies….My arms simply aren’t long enough. 😉 I had fun taking this picture though by our new banana tree….and from the looks of it~I think Keagan did too!

National Schrocksters Camping Vacation: Part II

It never fails that every camping trip we take, SOMETHING out of the ordinary is bound to happen. This trip, no, the zipper didn’t bust on our second night in, no-I didn’t wake up to grand daddy longlegs crawling on my face. We didn’t have any falls into the river or really any creepy crawling bugs to speak of…..Except-the stomach bug! Ugh, yes…..I started feeling sick around 4pm on Friday but we all thought it was nothing. By the time the night rolled in I spent all night and most of Saturday morning sick in the woods. The thought crossed my mind that maybe we should go home but how are you expected to pack up a tent and all the gear when you can’t even leave your sleeping bag unless its to go make another mad dash into the woods?

Thank goodness the bug came and went pretty quickly and Aaron really stepped in and took great care of the two boys while I was down. When I finally started feeling better we did still make the best we could out of the short trip we had left.

We had a beautiful site right on the water. We enjoyed fishing, swimming, cooking out…It was a beautiful full moon and we also went hiking and discovered a beautiful area with clear water and rock caves….Really really neat! Here are a few of the 80 pictures I took while we were out there.

I love that this kid is a veggie lovin’ kid!!

This was the most beautiful walk ever!

Cave Woman!!! Beware!

Overall the trip wasn’t a total bust. Now that I’m back home feeling much better, showered and with a full belly thanks to Cracker Barrel, when I look back I don’t just remember the sick night but also the great Saturday we had out as a family. The discoveries we found, the laughs we had, and the memories we made that will last a lifetime.
